What is a Camera Plan?
Like any photography plan, a Drone project includes a shot list. For our Drone projects, a camera plan also describes details such as:
- Camera positioning and action
- Capture angles
- Frame composition (background etc.)
- Points of interest (objects to capture)
- Distance to subject (ie: altitude)
- Video vs stills (specifies resolution)

Camera Plan: more than a shot list
There is often other information we include in a Camera Plan which may not be a part of the Flight Plan, such as:
- Hazards in the area (ie: Trees and Powerlines)
- No Fly Zones (to avoid private property and people)
- Control Zone (ie: spotter and operator positioning)
Planning provides steps to success
Creating a Flight Plan and a Camera Plan are important steps in the process of planning a Drone project. They help to clarify the overall brief and specfic objectives, and provide an opportunity for a client to consider and specify their requirements in all areas.
Client Needs Specified
Confirming these plans with a client is very much like a process of completing a checklist before takeoff, as it helps to identify any possible restrictions that may apply, permissions and approvals that may be required, and other potential issues which can be mitigated through contingency planning.
Our Approach:
Every project is different, so we don’t expect that use of a set template would always work. Smaller projects such as Real Estate marketing can be planned by emails with a client, whilst larger scope projects may require a reckie shoot to confirm the project plan.
What is a Reckie Shoot?
For medium-to-larger scale projects, a Reckie Shoot may help to confirm the brief and identify issues that require further planning. It helps to create a more detailed Camera Plan when required.
Reckie = Reconnaissance
We might suggest a Reckie Shoot if we think it will ultimately improve the final outcome of a project. A Reckie Shoot typically requires a half-day to visit a location and then prepare and provide a report with images.
